Sale value of Cemex assets totals USD 467 million
(Venezuela) -- The Venezuelan state may expropriate cement makers. The cement maker alleged that the country's present conditions made an impact on the estimates.
The sale value of Cemex assets abroad amounted to USD 467 million, 20.6 percent over its book value, reported the cement maker in a communiqué.
On June 19th, the National Securities Commission filed an administrative proceeding against the cement maker because it had failed to submit to the organization and the Caracas Stock Exchange, and had not disclosed, the information related to the sale of overseas subsidiaries and the stocks pricing method. On Monday, Cemex gave an answer.
"The method to assess the disposal of the stocks of the companies operating in Panama, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad & Tobago and Guadeloupe was to consider the book value, as it mirrors the asset replacement value," said the company.
Based on the corporate estimates, the book value accounted for USD 453.9 million. However, when deducting the accrued earnings and the net value, the sale price stood at USD 355 million. The company added also the net debt taken up by buyers at USD 112 million. Therefore, the sale value of the property amounted to USD 467 million.
"No other assessment method was considered because another value could not be determined given the circumstances prevailing in Venezuela. In any other event, under similar circumstances, the value could have been adjusted by the nationalization factor, which eventually turned out to be a compulsory sale."
